Demystifying the Wogglebug Part 3: The Audio Section
There's mixed (ha) information on whether using a stackable to combine signals is a bad idea or a good idea. Proceed at your own caution.
In this last video of the series I'll talk about the Wogglebug audio outputs and what it takes to get them to behave. (Slightly.)

One Hour of Lyra8 FX Feedback
Переглядів 9853 роки тому
The Lyra 8 FX is the only sound source. The delay lines are being modulated by the Wogglebug stepped output and are then sent to the Serge Resonant EQ. Multiple bands are on the verge of feedback at any given time. The comb outputs split the signal into a stereo image based on frequency, and that goes into the Mimeophon. The Mimeophon Repeat control is dimed and several parameters are being mod...
Demystifying the Wogglebug Part 2: The CV Section
Переглядів 13 тис.3 роки тому
Sorry for the long break, I had a bunch of technical difficulties with cameras and losing files. Anyway, here's how the middle section of the module works. You can read more about how the circuit's laid out here: web.archive.org/web/20070501084812/www.musicsynthesizer.com/WoggleBug/WoggleBug.html
Demystifying the Wogglebug Part 1: The Clock Section
Переглядів 18 тис.3 роки тому
This first video on the Make Noise / Richter Wogglebug covers the clock section. This will probably be the shortest and easiest to digest video - after this, the interactions between controls get a bit hairy. One additional note: the Burst output can be affected by both the master clock and the clock input. It's a complicated mess down there!

Cleaner DPO Sine - Secrets Make Noise don't want you to know!
Переглядів 3,6 тис.4 роки тому
A previous version of the Make Noise DPO manual details how the module can be calibrated both in terms of pitch and the sine / final output wave shape. This video will cover the former, showing how to clean up the sine wave output on a DPO as well as adjusting the wavefolder. You probably don't need to do this, so don't go poking around in your modules unless you feel very comfortable with a pr...
A Simple Shuttle System Patch
Переглядів 1,8 тис.5 років тому
This one finishes nicely. The Endorphin.es Shuttle System is capable of some complex patches, but in this case I'm keeping it simple, trying to keep close to what can be done with a Buchla 208. The timbre of the Furthrrrr Generator really shines near the end. Reverb is Valhalla Shimmer.

Making Software Modular Fun with Knobs - MIDI Fighter Twister
Переглядів 22 тис.5 років тому
Software modular is cost effective and extremely powerful, but tweaking knobs with a mouse can feel a bit lacking. There are a few MIDI controllers that consist of nothing but knobs, and today I'll be looking at DJ Tech Tools' MIDI Fighter Twister. This little box has opened up software for me, making it a much more viable platform for exploration and performance.
What Can You Do With a Synchrodyne
Переглядів 1,1 тис.5 років тому
I'd like to show some more patches rather than always just talk about the technical side of the Synchrodyne and Expand. Here we've got the PWM output of the Expand going into the filter of the Synchrodyne. Most of the changes you see here are the PWM control, Tracking Speed, and Damping. Other modules used include a Wogglebug, Maths, and Optomix. The SQ1 was on Random.

A Synchrodyne's Farewell to RxMx
Переглядів 1 тис.5 років тому
Make Noise has announced that they are retiring the RxMx and FxDf, a formidable combo that is one of the highlights of my rack. This guarantees that my set won't be going anywhere, but here is a sendoff regardless. The RxMx is acting as the main VCA / Mixer / Crossfader, taking all four filter outputs from the OG Synchrodyne. The Synchrodyne is being fed the PLL Triangle Out from the Expand. A ...
Epoch / Hordijk Twinpeak Filter and the Wogglebug
Переглядів 7595 років тому
I recently picked up an Epoch Modular Twinpeak filter, the brainchild or Rob Hordijk. (Someday I'll have a Blippoo Box... someday.) The filter's lovely response to being pinged and its two bandpass filters yielded some great sounds. The patch is being fed into a Digitech Polara reverb pedal in Plate mode. At a few points it does a fairly good timpani impersonation. There is some bleed from the ...

    There's this thing with math teachers and most people that have a strong understanding of things, and that's that ironically, once you understand a concept to a deep level, you lose your ability to relay the information to others. As if your past self lacking the understanding yet still grasping the perspective and capacity of explanation of a beginner is lost the moment the understanding becomes second nature. Thankfully for you, you do not suffer of this, and I truly truly appreciate the way you teach because I got the shared system and up until now, I was going to use the Wogglebug as toilet paper, and then you told me there's a ringmod on it and all this other fun stuff. Thank you, ill just use charming instead.

    Along with DUSG, another Maths ancestor is the Buchla 281 quad function generator. It's been available as a DIY project since before Maths existed, IIRC it might have been Toppobrillo's first offering. For Eurorack people often build single or double instead of quad.

    15:00 Your 1 octave up (double frequency) triangle wave plot has its fundamental lining up with the 1st harmonic of the previous lower pitch triangle wave. The harmonics of a triangle wave are ODD multiples of the fundamental, 3x 5x 7x etc, not 2x as in your plot.

    Hi there! Thank you for making this great and comprehensive video. Would I be right assuming that I'd be able to assign SysEx messages to those knobs so that I could control a hardware synth (such as a JD-Xi for example) and save deep-diving menus?

    • @ZenMountain
      @ZenMountain Рік тому

      This device has nothing to do with SYSEX, it's a USB MIDI controller. Behringer BCR2000 sends SYSEX.

    • @dakoiaa
      @dakoiaa Рік тому

      @@ZenMountain I'm aware of the Behringer BCR2000, which is a MIDI controller as well, but unfortunately no longer produced. I was hoping this new device you're showing could also make it. Rather than "nothing to do", I'd prefer and better apreciate a friendly reply telling that "no, this device is unable to handle or be programmed to send SysEx".

    • @ambidex
      @ambidex Рік тому

      @Mountain It's a completely reasonable question. There's no reason to assume that a USB "Midi controller" couldn't send sysex as that was the original way to send Midi control info. Many controllers can have been able to do this, even USB based ones. But they're getting harder and harder to find, and even when they do support sysex it's often not known until you have one in your hands. No offense, but I'm going to take it from your response that you don't know. I'd like to find something like this (and with sysex support) to use as a Midi controller for my JDXi, too.

    • @dakoiaa
      @dakoiaa Рік тому

      @@ambidex thank you for adding your comment. Also, I totally agree, with a few exceptions it's surprisingly hard to be sure of a given controller ability to be programmed and send slightly more complex MIDI messages like SysEx unless you have access to try them yourself.

    • @ambidex
      @ambidex Рік тому

      @dakoiaa the only items I know for certain can send the sysex needed for the JD-Xi are the Roland A Pro series, like the Roland A800 Pro. And Of course, there are lots of computer programs, and DAW programs can do it, but I try not to need to rely on a PC for my music.
